An update on our 2025 lawsuit.

Last year, Legal Aid Chicago joined HOPE Fair Housing Center, Northside Community Resources, and the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in filing a lawsuit against Fulton Grace Realty after an investigation uncovered source-of-income discrimination against Housing Choice Voucher holders. Five Black women who experienced discrimination were among the plaintiffs.

Now, we’re celebrating a landmark settlement that reaches far beyond the people who came forward.
Fulton Grace will retrain more than 400 leasing agents across Illinois and change its application and screening practices, helping create more meaningful access to housing for voucher holders.

“This is an important win in the fight for fair and accessible housing,” said Julie Pautsch, Supervisory Attorney with Legal Aid Chicago. “We look forward to seeing the impact of the changes Fulton Grace made to genuinely increase meaningful access to housing for voucher holders.”

This is what legal aid can make possible. By challenging discriminatory practices, our attorneys can help create change that reaches far beyond a single case.
